Set up your DSA support

Please complete the form below to set up your DSA funded support. You will need a copy of the letter sent to you by your funding body which approves your DSA funded support. This is often referred to as a DSA2 letter. Students funded by a Research Council do not get a funding approval letter, so should call or email us directly to set up their support. Please click here to view a DSA2 letter template.

Face to face support is dependent on support workers availability to provide face to face support at your University and on your University providing a suitable and confidential space for sessions to take place.

In the roles listed below, SpLD refers to students with specific learning differences, ASD refers to autistic students, and MH refers to students with mental health conditions. Specialist 1:1 Study Skills Support is individual support for learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), which may include Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Dyscalculia.

Support is mapped to your specific needs in relation to your course.

Study Skills Support can help with:

• time management and organisational skills
• efficient strategies for reading academic texts
• note taking from texts, hand-outs and in lectures
• research skills
• mind mapping and planning techniques
• proof reading strategies
• approaching written assignments
• memory techniques and strategies
• revision methods
• analysing exam/essay questions

Mentoring is not counselling. Mentors provide specialist, one-to-one support which helps learners address the barriers to learning. The support could address a range of issues, for example:

• how to deal with concentration difficulties
• time management, goal setting
• timetabling and prioritising workload
• creating a suitable work-life balance
• depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, OCD

AT training session are individually tailored sessions for each student according to their individual needs. AT Trainer will demonstrate a good overview of how the recommended software may apply to aid student’s learning.

Specialist autism and ADHD Mentors hold an in-depth knowledge and practical strategies to work alongside autistic and ADHD learners to support them succeed in their studies/ work placements. Our mentors can assist with such things as:

• managing change and difficult emotions
• dealing with challenging social situations
• developing social and communication skills
• having a healthy work/life balance
• accessing academic support and guidance
• managing course requirements (e.g., speaking in seminars, giving presentations, professional meetings)
• developing self-awareness and self-advocacy
• advising on quiet (low-sensory) study spaces
• any other issues that the learner brings to the sessions

What Happens Next

  1. Your request to set up your support and your preferred time and date for your session is now being processed by our NMH Team. Please allow us 2 working days to review it.
  2. Once reviewed you will get an email with an activation link for your account (please check your Spam and Other folder).
  3. Please confirm your account by clicking the activation link in the email we have sent, then you can Sign In and view/confirm your booked sessions and communicate directly with your Support Worker via your account. To confirm your first session, you MUST CLICK CONFIRM so that your Support Worker is notified.
